Trainers: Loree Melrose DeYoung
Loree started her riding career as a junior rider while growing up in
Fresno, California under the tutelage of her trainer and mentor, Jane
Johnson. As a junior, Loree showed at the top shows in both Northern
and Southern California taking many championships in the hunters, jumpers
and equitation and consistently placed well in the Medals such as
Onadarka, Barbara Worth and the PCHA. She also did some eventing, winning
at Ram Tap and qualifying for the young riders at the age of 18. She
contributes much of the responsibility for her successes to her talented
teachers Linda Allen, Julie White and Butch Thomas. During this period
of time, Loree also traveled the country working and managing for various
sales barns at the Thoroughbred Sales.
Loree subsequently moved to Santa Barbara, California to attend college at UCSB. While in Santa Barbara she began to ride and teach for Laurie and Ted Feiger during which time she also bought horses off the track and successfully retrained them for the hunter/jumper ring prior to selling them to top barns.
Following a transfer to UCLA, Loree completed her studies and received a BA degree. After graduation, she moved to Encinitas where she trained for Cathy Simm prior to moving to Oahu, Hawaii, where she continued training horses and teaching riding. Eventually she purchased her own business on Maui, Kula Ridge Stables, which became a prominent show barn for the the up and coming riders on the island. She and her team from Maui traveled extensively competing in shows in Indio, Del Mar and Pebble Beach. Kula Ridge also hosted many shows and clinics with top riders and trainers in both the hunter/jumper and dressage worlds.
The desire to compete more consistently eventually moved Loree and her family back to California where she began another successful business in Los Olivos, California. Operating as Loree DeYoung Training Stables, she is in the process of breeding quality warmbloods and showing both hunters and jumpers.
